The box of three businesses with a map that sits above the organic results on local searches — and the single most valuable piece of real estate in home service marketing.
The Local Pack (also called the Google 3-Pack or Map Pack) is the boxed set of three local business results Google displays with an interactive map at the top of search results for location-based queries.
When a homeowner searches “plumber near me”, “HVAC repair”, or “emergency electrician Boise”, Google shows a box with a map and three businesses pinned on it before any of the blue-link organic results. Each result shows the business name, rating, review count, hours, and a click-to-call button. That is the Local Pack.
It has been called the 3-Pack since Google trimmed it from seven results to three in 2015, and Map Pack because of the map that headlines the box. All three names refer to the same thing.
Roughly 44% of clicks on local searches go to the Local Pack rather than to the traditional organic results below it. For urgent-intent queries — burst pipe, no-heat call, dead AC in July — the Pack captures an even larger share, because mobile users tap the top result with a phone number and don’t scroll.

driver of call volume for most home service businesses
If you’re a home service pro and you’re not in the Pack for your core service in your service area, you’re effectively invisible for the jobs that matter most.
Google’s own documentation lists three factors, and every Pack ranking signal rolls up into one of them:
How close your business address is to the searcher’s physical location. Proximity is the hardest factor to influence — you can’t move your shop — but adding service-area locations and keeping your address accurate in GBP matters.
How well your GBP categories, services, description, and review content match the search. Picking the right primary category (e.g. Plumber vs Plumbing supply store) is one of the highest-leverage decisions on the profile.
How well-known and trusted your business is. This is where reviews do the heavy lifting — review velocity (how fast new ones arrive), volume (total count), ratings (the star average), GBP completeness, photo count, and response rate all feed into prominence.
You can’t change how close you are to every searcher, but you can compound every other signal:
Reveo’s Listings product keeps your Google Business Profile — and every other major directory — accurate, complete, and synced from one dashboard, so relevance and prominence stay strong.
Reveo’s Reviews product automates review requests over SMS and email after every job, replies with AI in your brand voice, and feeds a steady stream of new reviews into your profile so your velocity, volume, and response rate all compound.
Together, they target the exact signals Google uses to rank the Local Pack.
